Time. It’s always fleeting as a mother, right? There are never enough hours in the day. The kids grow up too fast. And I swear I laugh every time, I can’t find thyme in my spice rack (how can it happen every single time?? Message received, universe.) So I was of course intrigued when the TYME iron started showing up in my Facebook feed (you too?)

Let’s get one thing straight – I am a hair idiot. I do air-dry and pony and the “messy bun” which often gets more odd-messy than the cute-messy the magazines talk about. I have regularly begged my friend Korie to show me how she gets this chic, effortless-looking curl she does on her straight hair, and I have only recently discovered some kind of pre-blowdry spray which helped handle my flyaways. All that to say, I am no hair pro. But I gave TYME a try.
Truth be told, my first ten minutes were a total disaster. I watched (ok, skimmed) two tutorial videos on the TYME website and then got to work. Which pretty much gave me a look similar to a fried lion’s mane. But I decided to watch a few more video (they are KEY!) and give it another shot and…..voila! Not a bad first attempt! These are my actual photos from the very first time of trying the TYME iron.

Here are a few keys I learned about curling your hair with the TYME iron:
1) Brown guidelines vs gold bars: The guidelines bars are the brown bars on the wand that will lead to the curl (the gold plates will lead to flat ironing your hair). Pay special attention to the mention and position of these in the videos.
2) Watch the videos: This is a must. Watch this video and this video. And maybe this video too. This is not a product you open and use automatically. But once you understand a few tricks, you’ll be on your way to quick, easy, gorgeous curled hair.
2) Turning the rod: This may take some trial and error. Despite watching the videos through once, I needed to try it, fail, turn into a massive lion’s man, and watch the videos again before I got it and had success.
